About Wild Gourd Studio

I have lived my entire life in Cedarville, Ohio. I grew up as a farm girl; my favorite part was being surrounded by the animals. I especially loved my donkey and horse. Still to this day I own horses and would have felt very empty had they not been a part of my life.

I was also very involved in our county 4-H program and this I believe began my journey with creativity. Sewing, cooking, and gardening were only a few of the projects I took over many years. It was a great learning experience that taught me the basics of many things.

Getting married and having children brought an abundance of new creative projects. I loved quilting, basket making, and doing craft projects with my three children. I found that creating art with anything available was very challenging and rewarding.

My first introduction to gourds came when I was visiting a local art show. I saw these beautiful creations that were the color of leather and yet looked like wooden bowls.

To touch them was wonderful and to smell the earthy scent of gourds was enough to thrill my senses and cause my imagination to work. I had to try my hand at decorating gourds.

I was hooked! Then I was exposed to the Ohio Gourd Society and my education really began. I have learned that there are no limits to what you can do when it comes to decorating gourds.

Suddenly, seven years has passed. I spend my summers going to fine art shows in and around Ohio. I have sold gourds in Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico. My gourd art can be found in galleries locally and throughout the United States. My gourd art is known by collectors internationally as well.

Today I am thrilled to say that I create over three hundred gourd pieces a year in my beautiful 20x40 studio space. Each gourd is initialed and numbered, making them a collectable, one of a kind art piece for your home. I will be found working all year long behind a dust mask, with a carving tool and paint stained hands.

The Wild Gourd Studio Open House is one of my favorite events of the year. The studio is cleaned and decorated for the holidays, there is live music, and we have quite a party that weekend. If you are in my part of the world that weekend, please come and join the fun!
